EAD 315 - Greek Leadership Class

  • EAD315 was a course on leadership and people skills for MSU students in sororities and fraternities:

A course that deals with the topic of leadership and related people skills was planned to specifically target MSU students in sororities and fraternities.  The class was Spring Semester 2011.

Some of the topics covered were: effective listening and communicating, characteristics of outstanding leaders, leadership approaches and styles, leadership skills and strategies, teamwork and team building, positive problem solving, achieving win-win results, disagreeing in agreeable ways, group decisions, consensus facilitating strategies, effective people networking, mentoring, helping others to further develop their strengths, dealing with anger and difficult people, interview and resume skills and putting it all together for effective implementation.  They were discussed and related to scenarios that are common for fraternities and sororities -- along with case exercises related to Greek organizational settings.

It was a small class setting with a maximum of 25 students.  Student interactive learning was emphasized with discussions, case situations, role-playing, group involvement activities, etc.  This class focused on learning discussions, not exams.  Overall the class included developing and cultivating effective combinations of leadership and people skills for various situations.  This was an excellent opportunity to meet new people in the Greek system and enjoy a class with fellow Greeks.

It will be indicated here if the class will be held again in future semesters.
